“Past & Future”, arises from the opposition of these two elements and the “present” situation in which this entrance to a building in the urban context of Turin were found. Built around 1900, this building was built with all the noble canons of the time, frescoed ceilings, plaster bas-reliefs, wallpaper with golden leaves and brass handles. When Nicolay Diulgheroff, one of the exponents of Futurism and pupil of the Weimar Bauhaus, moved to Turin in 1950, he chose the top two floors of this residence for his living room. The moment and the historical current are in favor of eliminating all those traces of the past in favor of the future. Their Manifesto also symbolically affirms that they want to “burn down museums and libraries” so as to no longer have a relationship with the past in order to focus on the dynamic present.
All the signs of aging are thus hidden.
According to the project of the ’50s, all the walls are colored with white covered the “old” coffered in plaster, the marbles and the brass works are eliminated. In this redevelopment project we therefore wanted to respect and enhance the two realities Past and Future in a single architectural composition. Respecting the original design, the ceiling is restored as an element of the past and enhanced by inserting a secondary lighting system to bring out the colors. The white grissinato that was subsequently created is maintained and enhanced by inserting a contrasting blue wall and sampling the color from the “AEROPITURRA” oil on canvas by Nicolay Diulgheroff.
The handles are restored according to the original glass design in order to combine the two realities. The entrance compass is kept where there is an indirect light made in the shape of a dome with indirect light that helps in the external-internal transition of your home. The project is thus presented in a perfect union between Past and Future, creating what could be understood as Present.
